Is Anthem, Arizona a Good Place to Live?
Is Anthem, Arizona a Good Place to Live?
This is the most honest answer I can give you: yes. Anthem, Arizona is one of the best places to live in the entire Phoenix metro area — and I say that as someone who has lived here since 2012 and could have moved anywhere.
But "best" is relative, and you deserve more than a cheerleading session. Let me give you the real picture — the things that make Anthem genuinely special, the things you should think carefully about, and who Anthem is and isn't the right fit for.
The Short Answer: Here's Why People Love Anthem
Anthem consistently ranks as one of the most livable communities in Arizona for several reasons that hold up to scrutiny:
- World-class community amenities at an affordable HOA cost
- Excellent public schools in Deer Valley Unified School District
- 15+ miles of trails and over 1,400 acres of preserved open space — rare in metro Phoenix
- A genuine sense of community and neighborhood identity
- Strong, stable real estate values with solid long-term appreciation
- A safe, family-friendly environment with low crime rates
- Clean, master-planned infrastructure with no feeling of being in a 'suburb that just happened'
I've helped hundreds of families relocate to Anthem and other parts of the Phoenix metro. The most common thing I hear from clients six months after they move in is: "We should have done this sooner."
The Community Feel Is Real
One of the things I want to address directly: master-planned communities can sometimes feel sterile, manufactured, or lacking in authentic community life.
Anthem is not that.
The community events at the Anthem Community Park draw thousands of residents. The neighborhood Facebook groups are active and genuinely helpful — people share everything from trail conditions to restaurant recommendations to lost pet alerts. The Community Council runs well and keeps the amenities in excellent shape.
People who move to Anthem tend to stay in Anthem. That's not true of every Phoenix suburb, and it says something important about the community's livability.
What About the Schools?
Anthem Parkside feeds primarily into Deer Valley Unified School District, which is one of the most respected districts in Arizona. Boulder Creek High School has a strong reputations for academics and extracurricular programs. The elementary and middle school options within the community itself receive consistently positive marks from Anthem families.
If you're moving to Anthem with school-age children, this is genuinely one of its strongest selling points.
Honest Trade-Offs: What Anthem Is Not
I believe in giving my clients honest information, and that means being upfront about Anthem's trade-offs.
If you work downtown Phoenix five days a week, Anthem's 30 mile distance from downtown means you'll be navigating I-17 traffic. It's very manageable with schedule flexibility, and many residents find it entirely workable — but it's worth being honest about. The commute can be real.
Anthem has good dining and retail in the Anthem Marketplace, but it isn't a walkable urban experience. If that matters to you, Anthem may not be the right fit. You're not walking to restaurants and bars.
This applies to all of Phoenix, but Anthem's elevation does give it slightly milder temperatures than central Phoenix during peak summer. Still — this is Arizona, and July and August are hot. Summer is hot.
Like most of suburban Phoenix, you'll need a car for most daily activities. The community trails are wonderful for recreation, but not a substitute for urban walkability. It's a car-dependent community.
Who Is Anthem the Perfect Fit For?
Based on over a decade of living here and helping buyers find homes in this community, I see a consistent profile of the Anthem resident who thrives here:
- Families with children who want excellent schools, safe streets, and room to grow
- Remote and hybrid workers who want space, lifestyle, and the ability to occasionally commute
- Empty nesters and retirees — especially those considering Anthem Country Club — who want resort-level amenities and community without Scottsdale's price tag
- California and Pacific Northwest transplants seeking space, sunshine, affordability, and no state income tax
- Technology and semiconductor industry professionals with connections to TSMC's Arizona operations or North Phoenix employers
- Outdoor enthusiasts — hikers, cyclists, pickleball players, golfers — who want access to the best of what the Sonoran Desert offers

I've lived in Anthem since 2012, raised my family here, and still wake up grateful that this is home. When clients ask me if Anthem is as good as it looks — my answer is always the same: it's better. |
What Are Homes Like in Anthem?
Anthem offers a wide range of housing types and price points to suit different stages of life:
- Anthem Parkside: single-family homes ranging from the mid-$400s to low-to-mid $700s-$1M, with a range of lot sizes, floor plans, and ages
- Anthem Country Club: patio homes, luxury custom estates, and golf-course properties ranging from the high $500s to $1.5M+
- Townhomes and attached homes are available in select neighborhoods for buyers seeking lower-maintenance living
The community was developed primarily between the mid-1990s and the late 2000s, which means most homes have been updated at least once and offer mature landscaping and established neighborhood character — a distinct advantage over brand-new construction communities that can feel raw for the first few years.
The Bottom Line
Is Anthem, AZ a good place to live? My answer is an unequivocal yes — with the honest caveat that it's the right fit for the right person. If the lifestyle resonates with you, you will love it here. If you need urban walkability or a five-minute downtown commute, there are better Phoenix-area options.
The best way to find out if Anthem is right for you is to come see it. I'd love to give you a personal tour — not just of the houses, but of the trails, the parks, the community spaces, and the lifestyle that makes Anthem unlike anywhere else in Arizona.
